Plus, it costs a lot to get the color, maintain the color, its health and texture afterwards. Therefore, if your budget and other fears don’t allow you to apply chemicals to your hair, read on for some homemade natural hair color recipes!
1. Coffee brown hair color
If you want to get brown hair color, this is the perfect recipe for you! Just mix one tablespoon of coffee with a cup of water and let it boil until it reduces to one-third of its original amount (If you want, you can use a conditioner instead of water). Apply it to clean, damp hair and let it set. After a while, rinse it off thoroughly. This is a good option for covering your grey hair. However, it won’t last for long. Therefore, you might need to apply it to your hair every once in a while.

2. Beetroot Burgundy hair color
Want to color your hair a deep burgundy? We have the perfect match for you! Beetroot dye will not only color your hair nicely but will also promote your hair growth! For the recipe, mix beetroot with a carrier oil and apply it to your hair. Cover it with a shower cap, and let it sit for an hour or so. After an hour, rinse it thoroughly. You can apply this to your hair once a month.
3. Carrot Dye
This natural hair dye will give a reddish-orange tinge to your hair. Just mix some carrot juice with coconut oil (you can use any other oil if you’re out of coconut oil) and apply this mix to your natural black hair color. It is recommended to cover it with a shower cap. After an hour, wash it off thoroughly. You can use this once a month.
4. Black Tea
Black tea will help darken your natural hair color. This works best on brunettes and people with black hair. Take approximately 3-5 tablespoons of black tea and boil it with 2 cups of water. You can apply it just like that, or add herbal conditioner to it and then apply it to your hair. Let sit for at least one hour and then rinse it off thoroughly. Use this at least once a week to get the best results.
5. Sage Dye
Sage dye is the best option for darkening your hair as well as enhancing it. Take approximately half to one cup of dried sage and boil it in a three-fourth cup of water for at least 30 minutes. After it is boiled, strain out the sage and let the water cool. Pour this water over your hair after washing and drying your hair thoroughly. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes before washing it off.
6. Food Coloring Hair Dye
You never thought about this before, did you? This is quite effective if you want to give yourself a quirky look with a funky hairdo! To prepare this, mix a few drops of the food color of your choice with 2-3 teaspoons of conditioner. Apply it to your hair and let sit for at least an hour. Wash it out after an hour and let your hair dry naturally. It is recommended to use as and when required.
7. Henna
This is a natural hair dye you must be well aware of. Henna hair color is made by drying, milling, and sifting henna leaves. It not only colors your hair but also nourishes it. To prepare henna, you must mix one cup of henna with half a cup of water and then apply it to your hair, covering the roots. Let sit for 2 hours and then wash it off with shampoo and conditioner when the henna dries up. Let your hair dry naturally. This will give your hair a dark color, and hence, is perfect for covering up greys. Since henna color doesn’t wash out quickly, you can use this once a month or every 4-6 weeks.
